Presently owned and operated by Erik Gilkey, Davis Wallbridge Inc. was founded in 1922 by Davis Douglas Wallbridge. Mr. Wallbridge had moved from Canada to Solvay NY as a twenty year old construction laborer. After purchasing a small fleet of flat bed trucks, he was contracted through the Crucible Steel Company of America to haul steel from the Solvay Plant. In the early 1930’s Mr. Wallbridge purchased a small roller and dump truck and entered the asphalt paving industry.
After completing a tour as a bomber pilot over Germany in World War II and obtaining a civil engineering degree from Syracuse University, son Davis S Wallbridge began working for the company and ultimately took over the reigns in 1953. In the early 60’s Davis’s brother G. Douglas Wallbridge completed his service with the United States Air Force and joined his brother in the operation of the family business. Davis Wallbridge Inc. grew from a small driveway paver to paving many of the major highways in the Central New York Area under the supervision of the two brothers.
In 1978 Dave Taylor, a graduate in the landscape architecture curriculum out of SUNY ESF joined the team as a surveyor for a project reconstructing Allen Road in the Town of Clay. Dave then began estimating and project management for the company and ultimately purchased Davis S. Wallbridge’s shares in 1997.
Erik Gilkey joined the company as a seasonal laborer and estimator in 1994 while obtaining a Civil Engineering degree from SUNY ESF. In 2011 G. Douglas Wallbridge retired and Erik took over Doug’s position as an Owner. The company operated under Erik and Dave until David’s recent retirement as Owner. Dave Taylor continues to be a valuable asset in estimating and operations of the corporation.
Davis Wallbridge Inc. has constructed and paved various projects across the Central New York Region from the residential driveway to local interstates. Over the past few decades we have added athletic surface paving, green infrastructure construction and athletic facility construction to our work load.
